This post was supposed to be an explanation of exactly how a common search engine works. However I have not left myself enough time to do so.

So that I can keep myself on the search engine topic I have decided to firstly show an explanation of exactly what a Web Search Engine is. This will allow me to quickly move into more detail the actual workings of a search engine when I come to writing it. Bellow is a definition of “web search engine”

Web Search Engine Definition :

web search engine is a tool designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. The search results are usually presented in a list and are commonly called hits. The information may consist of web pages, images, information and other types of files. Some search engines also mine data available in databases or open directories. Unlike Web directories, which are maintained by human editors, search engines operate algorithmically or are a mixture of algorithmic and human input.
