ASCII Codes

American Standard Code for Information Interchange also known as ASCII was the first official computer character encoding scheme.

With a total of 128 different characters available on the original ASCII scheme it meant that all characters on a computer could be shown using only 7 bits. An 8 bit system was considered but later abandoned.

The original ASCII code only has 94 printable characters, which are as follows :
