Search Engine Review – Relevance – UPDATED

Okay we are coming to our second from last full test and is all about the relevance of the results provided by each of our four search engines.

I hear you asking why I am bothering doing this test when I have already shown Google is the winner of my tests, that Google won 2 of 2 so far. Well I planned to do this test because I did not expect such a clear cut competition, so I will continue as this is probably the most important test of them all.

Loading time and number of results will not be looked at in this test. All I will be looking at is what results come in what order. I will look for two sepearate phrases or results for each search engine, I will then state what place the result I wanted came in each search engine.

If this does not show the most relevant search engine I will then go to loading time and number of results as a last resort.

Google
Keyword 1 : Berwick Speedway
Results : Official site came 1st and Unofficial forum came 30th

Keyword 2 : Dunbar Domains
Results : Dunbar Domains site came 1st and LM-TIPS came 10th

Bing
Keyword 1 : Berwick Speedway
Results : Official site came 1st and Unofficial forum came 19th

Keyword 2 : Dunbar Domains
Results : Dunbar Domains site came 1st and LM-TIPS came 3rd

Yahoo
Keyword 1 : Berwick Speedway
Results : Official site came 1st and Unofficial forum came *not in top 100*

Keyword 2 : Dunbar Domains
Results : Dunbar Domains site came 1st and LM-TIPS came 3rd

Ask
Keyword 1 : Berwick Speedway
Results : Official site came 1st and Unofficial forum came 30th

Keyword 2 : Dunbar Domains
Results : Dunbar Domains site came 1st and LM-TIPS came 7th

Conclusion

Of all of the search engines above it was clear that for the keywords I had chosen Bing was currently showing the best results and for that reason would be the most suitble for accuracy.

You can see that Yahoo is drastically bad compared with the others and for that reason I will say avoid it.

I do think that Google Caffeine (upgrade version) will improve Googles results and may actually mean that they get this test along with the others. However that is for you to find out next post.
