Interview with Adgitize – July 09

Okay I have been lucky enough to get a second interview with Adgitize owner Ken Brown about Adgitize and the progress it has made since its launch.

Although not directly linked to  the first interview ( http://lmblog.co.uk/interview-with-adgitize-ken-brown/ ) I think that it will help to see changes and how thoughts from Ken have changed since Adgitize was in its early stages.

The interview follows (I am in bold, Ken is in normal text) :

Hi Ken, first of all how are you yourself doing ?

I am doing wonderful. It has been a nice cool summer here in Illinois and I have seen family and friends.

That is great to hear now straight into things I think. You moved to a dedicated server recently how did that go? Do you find that this has given both you and Adgitize as a whole a more flexible and secure network? Even that you get more freedom?

Well, the transition to the new server was long and painful. I started talking to web hosting companies in February. I finally chose 2 and got quotes. Then when I saw the price I cried. Then I spent another month or more seeing if there were alternate solutions that would meet Adgitize's growth needs.

Luckily, during this time Adgitize's growth was moving up with us getting more traffic every day, more publishers and increased growth in advertising.

The growth of the advertisers allowed me to decide to go ahead and move to the dedicated servers. I felt the revenue growth curve would allow us to make the move and accept a loss for a couple of months as revenue increased.

Well, once we made the decision to move to the dedicated servers then we needed to transition the old server to the new server. This was more of a timing issue. We mapped out our transition plan and made sure that the server down time was going to be minimal. When you have thousands of blogs touching your database every minute then the database can't be down for long.

Our team learned a lot during the transition. It wasn't what I would consider smooth, but I think the service we are providing is faster and definitely stable. We are having some issues with people logging into the system, which I think is really strange and may be plug ins and add ons to the browsers they use.

Yes I have seen mention of problems but know either a browser update or a change of browser helped me in all cases. Well the lestons learned can be used in the future hopefully when Adgitize outgrows its current server. How is the growth of Adgitize going compared to what you expected ? Do you feel Adgitize is more or less popular than you had hoped?

I am overwelmed by the growth of Adgitize. If you would have told me a year ago when the idea for Adgitize was first beginning, that Adgitize would be at the point it is now, I would have laughed at you.

We have a long way to go with many changes that are needed. But, I was looking at the Adgitize Alexa rankings yesterday comparing myself to a couple of our competitors, Project Wonderful and Ad Toll. It is amazing how fast we are rising in the Alexa rankings. I am pleased and excited about the future of Adgitize.

This is good news for both Advertisers and Publishers of Adgitize as they can see that the amazing benifits of the system are getting better and better. Any changes that you have had to make or will need to make to improve Adgitize ?

We have a list of changes that we need to make. The list gets longer rather than shorter. Many things that we do on a daily basis needs to be automated or made simpler for our customer care team. There are many improvements that need to be made for the members.

The feed reader still needs some tweaking, it appears to be picking up the updated date instead of the first published date in some instances.

Our advertising screens are confusing to members. Our publishers sometimes don't know all our rules. Our help and FAQ sections need updating to reflect some of the changes we have made the last 5 months. So, we are working to make things simpler for the members.

All changes that have been made so far have been for the best and your feedreader may not work perfectly but you and your team always help solve any issues very quickly, another good reason for people to join your network.

How have you found keeping Adgitize working with the constantly upgraded web browsers ?

Well, this last transition has been a life saver. Once we got past the hurdle of making the decision to cut over to the new server and then actually doing it things have gotten easier. Our requests for help with a problem from the members have been reduced to 10% of what they were with Network Solutions. But, in fairness to Network Solutions the web hosting they were doing for us wasn't designed for a business our size doing what we needed to do.

Is there anything you would like to say to any people considering joining/advertising on Adgitize to encourage them?

I get letters regularly from members who are thrilled about the advertising on Adgitize. They can't believe how much daily traffic they get from the Adgitize Advertising program. The average advertiser on Adgitize gets on average 5,000 ad views of their ad each day. Then they will get 50 to 100 visitors to their blog each day. Some of these visitors become new daily readers. There is not a better advertising vehicle in the blogosphere today.

Once a month we send out last month's earnings. The member publishers are wowed when they receive those PayPal payments. We have successfully paid out earnings each and every month since our inception. Everyone loves getting positive feedback in the form of cash each month. Paying out at only $10 in earnings makes everyone happy.

Have you got any new big plans for Adgitize that you can tell us about?

Well, we have a new product coming out soon, (maybe two weeks.) The 500 point maximum per day will be raised to 600 points. New revenue will come into the system. I am sorry but I can't tell you more than that right at the moment. Programmers are working to finish this new service.

With the credit crunch beginning to ease a little (atleast here in the UK) are you finding more people are Advertising or showing interest in Advertising ?

More people are advertising each and every month. I really don't know if it is because of the credit crunch retreating or more bloggers getting the message about the power of Adgitize Advertising. People advertise on Adgitize for a lot of reasons. They want to get their message out to more people. They want to grow their blog so their earning potential is higher. They want to raise their Alexa score.

Well Ken is there anything else you would like to add?

I am excited about the future of Adgitize and their members. I see many members that are still with us from that first month. I see advertisers that advertise for a couple of months, stop and then come back and advertise. Once you get that new traffic coming into your blog you miss it.

Our publisher base is growing each day. We get new advertisers each day. Advertisers are getting traffic and our publishers are earning money each day. It is a wonderful symbiotic relationship.

I want to thank everyone that stay with us when we have problems. Running a web business so many things can go wrong and we really love our members that understand that issue and work through those problems with us.

Thanks to Ken Brown and Adgitize for this interview.
