Entrecard – Paid Sponsors Review *part 2*

This is the second part of my review of the Entrecard Paid Sponsors program.  I have looked at it previously in “Entrecard – Paid Sponsors Review” and would like to fully conclude it now.

Time Scale Of Advert

Perhaps the biggest factor of my advert for me was how long will it be shown, ideally I wanted atleast one week as I know I am going to get as many views as possible by different users. However with the Entrecard system they seem to try to get your views over as quick as possible.

As soon as my ad went online my ad views started flying up (hundreds an hour) and I was already worried about the ad only lasting a day or 2. In the end the ad lasted just under 4 days.

Having chosen to start on a Monday I feel I lost out on the weekend viewers so think the ad flew out far to fast. I think that the main point of this Entrecard advert is to make money and they want to make as much as possible as quick as possible.

In my own eyes I think most users saw my ad multiple times and in almost all cases within a few minutes of each view. Unfortunately that is a big thumbs down for me on the time scale as I really do believe they need to slow the ads down, they could easily do this by changing the frequency of sponsored ads.

to run an ad for a full month would cost me $187.50.

Click-Through Rate

The click through rate of my Entrecard ad was only  1%  (1 every hundred views) which is actually quite high for the industry. For most advertising networks the click through is usually about 0.3%, which is very low but is accepted by advertisers as it is a standard figure

I personally had hoped for a fair amount more than 1% but when I look through my overall Adgitize stats I see that my average click through rate is 1.6%. The reason I expected a much higher rate was due to the fact people click the Entrecard widgets to gain points, not just because they like the advert.

Over the whole ad period I got 428 clicks and 41805 views. With only 428 views for  $25 I am very dissapointed when on average I am getting about 80 clicks per day from Adgitize.  Over a 1 month *30 days* ad slot this could mean I get 2400 click throughs from Adgitize but from Entrecard I would get about 3000.

With an average sales conversion of 0.5% from Adgitize (Dunbar Domains was the Entrecard Ad) this would work out at 12 new customers every month.  The ad at Entrecard produced a 0% purchase rate.

Conclusion

Entrecards sponsored ads program is extremely over priced for what it provides, given the chance of $25 to advertise I would deffinately go with Adgitize and give the extra $1 to charity.

The system that Entrecard are using however is extremelly easy to use and in my eyes has a couple of really good features, such as being able to choose your target market. As Adgitize are planning to implement this in the future however I still think that Adgitize will beat Entrecards sponsored ads system hands down/

Would I reccommend ?

Simple answer…No

There is really not a good opportunity there in my opinion and it has just convinced me that my time as an Entrecard user is well and truly over.

  1. Um… I believe an average CTR is 0.3% three-tenths of one percent. It has been so for years. 1% is very good. But I agree with you about everything else. And seeing the same ad so often just annoys viewers.

  2. Ah ok well if 0.3% is the overall average of all networks I am quite impressed I must say. That does change everything. My mistake but i knew there was a 3 in the average somewhere :P

My previous Google adverts and other networks however have returned roughly a 2.6% click through rate, overall, for me.

I will update the post with this information, thanks for your help.

  3. Hi Lee,

seems everyone gives the same conclusion :) Eli from http://businessphereconsulting.com
    Chinaren from http://tomecity.com/chinarensblog
and my conclusion the more sponsored ads are in the system, the worse the CTR will be.

I think you have been one of the advertisers who shared the spot with 11 other advertiser for one or two days.

If you look at Eli’s and Chinaren’s numbers, they got over 100 clicks more for the four days. I think another factor is that there should be an EntreCard on the sponsor’s blog/website. Otherwise there won’t be a second click on this specific sponsored ad.
