Profits miss expectations – Google
Internet giant Google has reported a sharp rise in profits and revenue in quarterly results that nonetheless failed to impress Wall Street.
Net profit for the three months to the end of June came in at $1.84bn (£1.2bn), up by a quarter on the $1.48bn it recorded a year earlier.
Revenue was $6.82bn, also up sharply on the $5.52bn posted a year ago.
However, analysts had expected better and chose to focus instead on operating expenses, which increased sharply.
As a result, shares in Google fell more than 4% in after-hours trading.
'Strong growth'
"They're throwing more money into research and development than people were expecting and a little bit less into sales and marketing," said Colin Gillis at BGC Partners.
"Google has been pretty clear that it's going back into investment mode. They added 1,200 people in the quarter, which means more expenses are going to kick in in September."
WorldOMeters – Information Live
Okay I found this site while I was looking around the internet to find out a rough number of Google searches conducted each and everyday. WorldOMeters is an absolutly amazing website with information from almost every aspect of the world.
It uses information provided by governments and agencies and then finds trends and uses these to create expected levels of each thing for each day. These levels are then divided up throughout the day and added "live" to give a fairly accurate account of what the level of each topic is.
IT covers :
- World Population (6 aspects)
- Government & Economics (7 aspects)
- Society & Media (9 aspects)
- Environment (8 aspects)
- Food (7 aspects)
- Water (3 aspects)
- Energy (11 aspects)
- Health (15 aspects)
Obviously with each of these it covers numerous aspects each with its own little live counter. Some counters are even linked back to show you how and where their information was sourced.
Adgitize to Provide Targeted Marketing
Press Release by Adgitize :
Many advertisers over the last year and a half have requested the ability to target their ads to specific markets within the Adgitize Ad Network. Target Marketing is the ability to show your ad only on specific publisher blogs that write for a specific subject or category.
Target Marketing to Subject Matter
We received the first request for targeted marketing back in December 2008. An advertiser requested to only show their ad on blogs with a subject matter of sports. Target marketing will allow our advertisers to specify a specific subject matter category like sports, computers, politics or music and video. Adgitize has created 32 specific subject matter categories within which our advertisers will be able to specifically target their ad.
Adgitize has also created regional or continent categories, so you will be able to target a specific area of the world. This new geographic categorization will enable advertisers to aim their ad to a particular audience.

Stay safe On The Internet – Part 1 – Passwords
More and more people are loosing money and important online accounts when someone gets a hold of their password. In many cases this can be stopped or the damage, at the very least, minimised. So here is my crash course on how to avoid any problems with passwords.
1.
Use a difficult to guess password, dont use a name or nickname, these are very easy to guess and will be the first choice for any password hackers. Try to include a number (or more than one) within your password. whether it be at the start, middle or end. This in itself will just add a little more complexicity to the password. THe number does not necessarily have to be "1", "1" is very easy to guess.
