Profits miss expectations – Google
Internet giant Google has reported a sharp rise in profits and revenue in quarterly results that nonetheless failed to impress Wall Street.
Net profit for the three months to the end of June came in at $1.84bn (£1.2bn), up by a quarter on the $1.48bn it recorded a year earlier.
Revenue was $6.82bn, also up sharply on the $5.52bn posted a year ago.
However, analysts had expected better and chose to focus instead on operating expenses, which increased sharply.
As a result, shares in Google fell more than 4% in after-hours trading.
'Strong growth'
"They're throwing more money into research and development than people were expecting and a little bit less into sales and marketing," said Colin Gillis at BGC Partners.
"Google has been pretty clear that it's going back into investment mode. They added 1,200 people in the quarter, which means more expenses are going to kick in in September."
Stay safe On The Internet – Part 1 – Passwords
More and more people are loosing money and important online accounts when someone gets a hold of their password. In many cases this can be stopped or the damage, at the very least, minimised. So here is my crash course on how to avoid any problems with passwords.
1.
Use a difficult to guess password, dont use a name or nickname, these are very easy to guess and will be the first choice for any password hackers. Try to include a number (or more than one) within your password. whether it be at the start, middle or end. This in itself will just add a little more complexicity to the password. THe number does not necessarily have to be "1", "1" is very easy to guess.
Coming In 2010
Already in 2010 we are putting together plans for our posting throughout the year. We have some pretty major plans for this year and a number of partnerships will hopefully be formed over the next one or two months.
Everything we have planned is to try and make LM-BLOG one of the best resources of information on the latest internet developments. With a look at trying all new Blog services and Advertising systems, where possible, we will hopefully provide a mass of help to everyone.
This year more than ever we are going to give our visitors a say in what we publish. From this point onwards you can ask us to review a website, give advice on technology or advertising. Or really anything you want. Where possible we will publish all requests.
Web Browser Coming 10th November
I am giving out a warning at this point so that you can spread the news around as much as possible that I will be launching a survey on the 10th November until the 10th December.
It will cover all aspects of your browser choice and will also give you the chance to give your own comments at the end. I am planning to use this along with my own discoveries to find out what is seen as the best browser.
I hope it will also tempt any people on older browsers to update and see the internet in its upto date form!!
Any Plugin… What do you want ?
If you could have any plugin that you could dream of for your blog, what would it be ? Would you use one that is already there or would you need to totally create your own plugin.
I really dont have any limit to what your ideas are I just want to see what you think.
For me I would choose...
To have a plugin that was able to take my quickly jotted down notes and ideas for posts and then convert them into posts. I prefer to do notes and ideas first but really hate having to go back afterwards to create the good quality posts (that I hope I create).
I would also want this plugin to be able to post the posts at specific times each day (1 per day) but also to have it post just before my busiest period of the day.
